Hispanic Educational Summit 2008 - April 4th, 2008

  • This is the largest educational conference for middle and high school Hispanic students in North Carolina.
  • More than 650- 6th to 12th grade Hispanic students from over 35 public school systems/districts in North Carolina will register for this annual Hispanic educational conference.
  • More than 30 other summit speakers will talk about life skills, education planning, and career planning, while additionally offering themselves as role models.
  • The conference has more than 40 exhibitors ranging from community colleges to local universities and other educational institutions. 

Hispanic Achievement Conference 2008 - October 16 & 17th, 2008

  • Presented by NCSHP, in partnership with the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), was planned in an effort to empower education leaders, teachers, counselors, social workers, and community leaders with a better knowledge of the Hispanic student population and the factors that interfere with their educational performance. Participants will also learn methods and practices that help Hispanic students overcome barriers to academic success and promote their involvement in school life
  • More than 450 participants from school systems/districts across North Carolina will attend the conference.
  • More than 30 local successful practitioners will talk about educational issues including ESL programs, bilingual education, parental involvement, and linguistically/culturally diverse populations as a positive resource. 

Stay In School Campaign 2007-2008

  • “Your Life, Your Future, Your Destiny, Is Now…Stay In School” is a statewide, multi-faceted campaign to remind Hispanic students and their parents about the need to finish high school and pursue a technical or an advanced education as a means to achieving educational success and economic mobility.
  • NCSHP shows a public service announcement (PSA) or advertisement emphasizing the need for Hispanic students to stay in school and continue with their education as much as they can. The PSA/advertisement is broadcasted on Univision.
  • This statewide, multi-faceted campaign runs mainly for one month, twice a year (during the Hispanic Heritage month in the Fall and during the Spring of the school year) using English and Hispanic newspapers, Hispanic radio stations, TV station, posters in schools and public places, and the “Your Life, Your Future, Your Destiny, Is Now…Stay In School” booklet distributed to middle and high school students attending NC public schools.

North Carolina Hispanic College Fund

  • A charitable fund established by NCSHP in 2004 to benefit Hispanic students in North Carolina.
  • Each year a group of recipients (15 in 2007) are chosen as recipients of scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500 dollars for higher education.
