In The Art and Science of Teaching: A Comprehensive Framework for Effective Instruction, author Dr. Robert J. Marzano presents a model for ensuring quality teaching that balances the necessity of research-based data with the equally vital need to understand the strengths and weaknesses of individual students.
For classroom lessons to be truly effective, educators must examine every component of the teaching process with equal resolve. The Art and Science supports effective learning with charts, rubrics, and organizers to help teachers examine and develop their knowledge and skills in order to achieve that dynamic fusion of art and science that results in exceptional teaching and outstanding student achievement.
WORKSHOP SCOPE ▪ You Will be Able To…….
Workshop Scope: 1) The importance of creating a common language of instruction using research-based strategies, 2) Examining Question 3 in Marzano’s The Art and Science: What will I do to help students practice and deepen their understanding of new knowledge?, 3) Applying strategies associated with practicing and deepening understanding; 4) Examining phases of support to build teacher expertise through reflective and purposeful dialogue.
You will be Able to:
- Use four key strategies that require students to examine similarities and differences of essential academic content
- Comparing
- Classifying
- Analogies
- Metaphors
- Design lessons that incorporate these strategies
- Plan for professional reflective dialogue to improve teacher expertise and student learning and achievement for all students, especially ELL's.
